Tura, June 2: The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has expressed its opposition to the move of the state government to hold exams to various heads under Meghalaya Police (MLP) this past Sunday calling it against Christian spirituality.
In a letter yesterday to the media, AHAM stated that this was the first time such an examination is being conducted on a Sunday, in a region that is predominantly Christian.
Written exams to various posts were held in many of the districts yesterday, Jun 1, though AHAM mentioned South West Garo Hills, in particular. “By conducting an official recruitment exam on a Sunday, it directly impacts and disrupts the spiritual practices of Christian candidates and their families. Choosing Sunday has caused unnecessary hardship and emotional distress,” felt AHAM.
The group has urged the state government to avoid scheduling such important exams or official events on Sunday in the future.
