JOWAI, June 7: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), Khliehriat Circle, on Saturday conducted surprise inspections of eateries in Khliehriat only to discern that several food stalls and hotels were reportedly operating in unsanitary kitchen conditions, posing a serious risk to public health.
The inspections, carried out as part of World Food Safety Day 2025, aimed to evaluate the hygiene standards of food preparation in local food stalls, hotels and restaurants.
The JNC’s initiative was led by its general secretary, Symboh Baiar Sumer.
The findings revealed widespread neglect of basic cleanliness in many establishments, raising concerns about the potential spread of diseases, especially among students who frequent these places.
Underlining the importance of hygienic practices in food handling, the JNC, in response, issued strict warnings to the establishments.
Reiterating that food is essential for life, the JNC urged everyone to prioritise cleanliness to prevent diseases.
The JNC also urged the Office of the Food Safety Officer to conduct regular inspections to ensure that local eateries comply with food safety norms and do not become complacent.
It also warned that if these food stalls fail to uphold hygiene standards regarding food safety, they will face stringent actions.
