Shallang Police on the hunt to nab GNLA militants

NONGSTOIN: Shallang Police is on the lookout for GNLA militants numbering around 12 to 14 who were involved in an encounter with the force on Tuesday at Agitchak village, around 30 km from Shallang.
Police informed that two units of the Special Weapon and Tactic (SWAT) Team are conducting search operations in the thick forests of Agitchak area.
West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, S. Nongtnger, informed that several weapons were recovered on Tuesday from the encounter site including one Chinese made Walkie Talkie, two mobile phones, one AK magazine with seven live ammunition, one handcuff with pouch, 59 empty cases of AK bullets and two empty cases of 9mm, one wireless handset and one book of GNLA demand notes.
The district police chief informed that Habel Sangma, GNLA area commander of Shallang area, was suspected to be leading the group of militants who opened fire on the Police force.
Police also suspected that there might be some GNLA militants who have sustained injuries during the encounter with the Police.
