13 Assam students in ISRO to experience India’s space achievements

GUWAHATI, June 26: The North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) has initiated a project to foster awareness about space science and technology by organising visits for 800 talented science students from all eight states of the Northeastern Region to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bangalore.

Altogether 100 students from each state are being selected for the trips, which are being organised in different batches in a phased manner. Each phase will comprise a group of 13 students along with a teacher coordinator.

From Assam, 13 students from Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kamrup (Metro) and Majuli districts, have left for the ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru to experience India’s space achievements.

Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu, flagged off the second batch of students to ISRO under the NE-SPARKS programme from the State Mission Office, Samagra Shiksha, Assam here on Wednesday.

It is worth noting that the first batch of students, comprising two students each from Baksa and  Barpeta and three students in each district from Biswanath, Bongaigaon and Cachar and one teacher coordinator of Kamrup (Metro), visited ISRO from April 21 to 24, 2025. Students from Classes IX to XII of government /provincialised schools are selected based on merit and a keen interest in science and space exploration.

During the visit to ISRO, the students will get a chance to not only visit ISRO but also get an opportunity to interact with the secretary of ISRO, visit to MOX Control Centre, ISSDC, URSC, ISITE, Jawahar Nehru Planetarium, etc.
