GUWAHATI, June 26: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday asserted that the Congress was determined to strengthen its organisational presence in all the 126 Assembly constituencies of Assam, ahead of next year’s Assembly elections in the state.

“No candidate can win — or make others win — without a strong organisational structure,” Gogoi said during an interaction with mediapersons here.

He emphasised that strengthening the organisational base at the grassroots level has been a top priority over the past 30 days and that party workers have responded with active cooperation.

Notably, in a bid to boost the morale of grassroots party workers, the APCC is set to launch a unique outreach initiative on Friday.

As part of this programme, state and district-level Congress leaders will visit booth presidents and workers to take selfies, which will be circulated widely on social media platforms as a mode of direct outreach.

Marking one month since his appointment as APCC president, Gogoi, stated that the party has received encouraging response from the grassroots over the past month.

“This has unnerved BJP leaders leading to visibly increased restlessness on their part,” he claimed.

Gogoi said the Congress has now reinvigorated the morale of its ground-level workers.

He further emphasised that the party has unitedly protested against “widespread corruption and irregularities of the incumbent government”.

On the issue of electoral integrity, he asserted that Congress would work actively to ensure that free and fair elections are conducted on the basis of genuine voter registry.
