Synod College students attend interactive prog at PIB Shillong’s office

SHILLONG, June 27: A group of Bachelor of Arts students from Synod College, Shillong, visited the Press Information Bureau (PIB) office here on Friday as part of their internship programme. The visit aimed to provide the students with first-hand exposure to the functioning and role of a central government communication office. The students were led by senior journalist Starfing Pdahkasiej.
During the interaction, Assistant Director of PIB Shillong, Gopajit Das, welcomed the students and briefed them on the structure, functions and responsibilities of PIB Shillong. He elaborated on how the Bureau disseminates official information about government policies, schemes and initiatives to the media and the public.
The session also covered important topics including the role of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, relevant laws and constitutional provisions related to media and communication, and the strategies adopted to manage information flow in the digital era.
The students actively participated in the discussion and raised pertinent questions on issues such as how the Bureau handles misinformation and backlash in the age of social media. They were explained on the various tools and mechanisms available for fact-checking and maintaining credibility in government communication.
In addition, the students were acquainted with career prospects and opportunities within the field of media, communication, and public relations.
The students were encouraged to pursue their interests with dedication. The visit concluded with an interactive exchange of ideas and words of encouragement, as well as an exploration of diverse pathways for their future careers.
