MAWKYRWAT, July 1: Adviser to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Hamletson Dohling, on Wednesday inaugurated a road in Rangthong village, South West Khasi Hills, while expressing hope that the same will now ensure swift healthcare access for villagers, especially for pregnant women requiring care at the Rangthong Primary Health Centre (PHC) and the Transit Home.
The road, constructed under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) for the year 2024-25, was completed at a cost of Rs. 26 lakh.
Speaking at the inaugural programme as the chief guest, Dohling praised Myntri Shnong and vice chairman of the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation, Kitborlang Nongrem, for taking full responsibility to develop the village.
Dohling said the newly inaugurated road would be a blessing for the people of Rangthong and neighbouring areas.
Responding to issues raised by the Ranthong Cultural Club Sports and Association regarding the need for sports infrastructure in the village and concerns raised by Tbeh Jingshai Village Organisation on improving the Transit Home, Dohling stated that while he would not make any promises, he and the Myntri of Rangthong had requested the chief minister to provide artificial turf to Rangthong village.
“We have raised the issue, but it totally depends on the chief minister and the availability of funds,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nongrem informed the gathering that another internal road for Rangthong village has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 2.97 crore, with the tender already floated and implementation expected soon.
He expressed gratitude to the chief minister and the MDA government for responding to the needs of the village.
Others who were part of the programme include Assistant Engineer of Mawkyrwat C&RD Block Khlainborlang Wanniang, village leaders, government officials, et al.
