SHILLONG, July 7: The Umpling Dorbar Shnong has urged East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah not to grant permission to any private party or individual for deep tube well drilling within the locality. In a letter addressed to Kurbah, Umpling Rangbah Shnong SF Pyngrope stated that the locality’s water supply schemes (WSS) are currently being managed through 20-22 deep tube wells drilled by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
The Executive Committee meeting of the Dorbar Shnong, held on May 10, noted with concern that granting permission to private parties or individuals for tube well drilling could jeopardise the government’s schemes in the interest of the public.
