SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek in the Assembly on Wednesday admitted that there are no medicines available in both the Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the State.

“It is true that there are no medicines in both CHCs and PHCs in the State,” Hek said while replying to a question raised by Nongthymmai UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh about whether the Government is aware that there are no medicines in these health centres.

He however said that the Department is trying to set up separate medicine stores to meet the demands of the CHCs and PHCs.

While replying to a question raised by Mawthoh whether the Government has any tie up with the private hospitals since several diagnostic tests which cannot be conducted in Government hospitals for want of equipment are being conducted outside at great cost to the poor people, Hek said, “All these aspects are covered under the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS)”.
