Rahul promises sports facilities in Manipur

Imphal: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday promised sports facilities in Manipur if the party came to power.

Speaking at a public meeting at Wangjing village in interior Thoubal district, Rahul Gandhi said if his party came to power after the coming Lok Sabha polls, facilities for the improvement for sports would be developed in the state.

The youth who were interested in sports would then be provided with all the facilities by the Centre, he said during his brief stay in Manipur, which has produced sportspersons like boxer Mary Kom.

The Congress vice-president also said that his party would also try to set up a National Institute of Technology in the state.

Rahul Gandhi came here by helicopter from Shillong and spent about half an hour in the village.

Rahul Gandhi cancels Mizoram visit

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has cancelled his proposed visit to Aizawl on Wednesday in view of the ongoing Assembly session, party sources said.

Thanglawra Ngurte, member of the state PCC Media Cell, said his visit was cancelled in view of the Assembly session which began yesterday.

The Congress leader was scheduled to address an election rally at Mualpui locality in Aizawl on Wednesday and also meet journalists at Lengpui airport near Aizawl. (PTI)
