Agartala: The Opposition Congress has demanded to regularise the services and to provide other service benefits to Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan (SSA) teachers engaged in different government schools in Tripura.

Addressing the reporters here, leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath alleged that the Tripura Government had made a payment of only Rs 57.80 crore against the Centre’s sanction over the past five years to SSA teachers of the state.

”Almost all Indian states, including Northeastern states, have already made regularised the services of SSA teachers to maintain the parity of service benefits among the teachers since all of them are doing the same job,” Nath said.

He also pointed out that the state government had been defrauding Rs 7.20 lakh every month from 7,500 SSA teachers and surprisingly the state government did not have any record where these money went over the year.

Nath blamed that only 9.01 per cent people in Tripura were educated and the state government did not initiate any attempt to improve the situation rather intentionally stayed away from implementation of National Curriculum Framework (NCF) introduced in 2005 by almost all the state to improve education system.

”The penetration of schools, colleges, Universities and technical institutions are lowest in Tripura among other NE states and the education system in Tripura has been suffering from inadequate and mal-distribution of teachers, which is solely responsible for poor performance of the students,” Nath added.

He asserted that the proposed march to the civil secretariat by the SSA teachers demanding fulfillment of their legitimate demands would be supported by the Congress party and said if the Left Front Government did not respond to them, the party would go for a mass movement. (UNI)
