MHRC takes suo motu cognisance of girl’s murder

SHILLONG, July 21: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the shocking murder of a 19-year-old girl in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.
The incident took place in the Dawa Matchakolgre area of the town, where a man identified as James R Sangma brutally attacked and killed the girl with a machete in a public space.
In response, the Commission has directed the Superintendent of Police, East Garo Hills, to submit a detailed report on the case by the next hearing.
The action was confirmed by MHRC secretary L Ch Marak on Monday.
