SHILLONG: Scrutiny of nominations papers of the candidates for both Shillong and Tura Parliamentary seats would be held on Monday from 11 am.

Altogether eight candidates are in the fray, including three independents, in Shillong Lok Sabha seat, while in the Tura seat there will be a straight contest.

On the last day of the filing of nominations on Saturday, two Independent candidates – Denis Siangshai and Iborina Shylla – submitted their nominations before the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner for the Shillong seat.

Among the others in the fray are sitting MP Vincent H Pala from Congress, Paul Lyngdoh from UDP, BJP nominee Shibun Lyngdoh, CPI nominee Richard Shabong and Aam Aadmi Party nominee Armerington Kharshiing. HSPDP – KHNAM supported Rev. PBM Basaiawmoit is contesting as an Independent.

Siangshai had earlier applied for a BJP ticket in Shillong but the party decided to put up Shibun Lyngdoh, prompting Siangshai to file his nomination as an Independent.

Meanwhile, the Tura seat is set to witness a straight fight between veteran NPP leader PA Sangma and young Congress leader Daryl Sangma.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is Wednesday.
