SHILLONG, July 22: The Commissionerate of Food Safety (CFS) on Tuesday shut down four tea stalls at Jingkieng Nongthymmai and disposed of all food items that had been prepared using expired cooking oil.
Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety (Enforcement), DBS Mukhim, said the stalls were closed after failing to comply with guidelines set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
During the inspection, Mukhim also found that several tea stalls were operating without valid FSSAI licenses. Some restaurants reportedly closed their shutters upon learning about the ongoing inspection in the area.
“From the outside, the tea stalls may appear clean and presentable,” Mukhim noted. However, she pointed out that the reality inside is quite different, with serious lapses in hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen and storage areas. According to her, such conditions pose significant health risks to customers.
She further informed that all stall owners have been instructed to strictly adhere to FSSAI regulations.
“Failure to comply will lead to blacklisting, and the stalls will not be allowed to reopen,” Mukhim warned.
