TURA, July 24: As part of the ongoing national initiative “Mission LiFE” (Lifestyle for Environment), the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Programme Centre – Hub at the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya, conducted a two-day awareness programme recently in Tura.
The programme, held at Tura Christian College and Nokrek Heights School, aimed to sensitize and educate students and the wider community on sustainable environmental practices. The central theme of the event was “Say No to Single-Use Plastics and Reduce Waste”.
A series of engaging activities were organised to promote awareness, including expert talks on the theme, a model-making competition, a painting contest, and a student-led rally. These activities were designed not only to inform but also to inspire young minds to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and local residents, contributing to a greater understanding of the urgent need to reduce plastic consumption and manage waste sustainably.
The Mission LiFE programme embodies a call to action for individuals to adopt mindful consumption patterns and promote environmentally responsible behaviour—vital steps toward building a sustainable future.
