SHILLONG: A social organisation should stress on preserving and safeguarding one’s own identity rather than focusing on activities which are not in accordance with the set of objectives laid by an organisation during its inception, asserted Meghalaya Legislative Assembly member, Ardent Basaiawmoit.

Underlining this need at the Free Medical Camp for heart patients organised by the FKJGP Mawlai Circle at Indoor Stadium, Mawlai Phudmuri here on Saturday, Basaiawmoit who is also the former President of the FKJGP Central body said when any social organisation is formed, their main aim is to cater to the needs of the people and protect in case there are any anomalies in the state government.

“Organising such free camps once in while will definitely help the poor and needy people but organising it every time will only build a wrong perception in the mind of the people in receiving everything for free”, added former President of the organisation.

He however, called upon the people to come forward regardless of their fear and get themselves tested to ensure one’s own safety and not to wait for the sickness to reach its peak point. “It is always advisable to prevent anything before it gets to you”, he said while urging the doctors to compassion to the patients as this in itself will cure almost 70 percent of their sickness.

Meanwhile, Head of the Cardiology Department, NEIGRIHMS Dr A Mishra informed that in the state, around 4 to 5 percent of the people suffer from heart disease which is still a small number as compared to the others states of the country.

Around 15 doctors from NEIGRIHMS Hospital led by Dr A Mishra and 4 doctors from the Mawlai Nongpdeng Dispensary rendered their services to around 120 patients who arrived at the camp from all over the city.

Earlier, on the occasion, the FKJGP Mawlai Circle also felicitated Ardent Basaiawmoit.
