Itanagar:  The ‘Ruling Congress was hunting for Opposition candidates so that they could win from as much Assembly seats as uncontested’, blamed president of the Arunachal Pradesh unit of BJP Tai Tagak.
Congress candidates in seven Assembly constituencies are likely to be declared unopposed as the opposition parties failed to field any contestants against them. The final list in the fray will be available after completion of withdrawal of candidature process today.
Tagak said the procedure Congress is applying, is not only the murder of democracy, but it is also a ‘crook game plan’, which is not healthy for the democracy of the country.
Terming it as ‘sabotaging’, he alleged that the ruling party was applying money and muscle power with the help of high ranking government officials, which is not suitable for the future of the state.
In several places party candidates and workers were threatened and their cars were burnt down, he added.
BJP had nominated 55 candidates to contest in the Assembly Polls, however, 49 nominations were filed in which two were rejected during scrutiny, he informed, adding out of these ‘we are expecting to win from 30 seats’.
It is very unfortunate that money is being carried in cartons and open boxes to purchase opposition candidates and this never happened in the state earlier,’ he said in a press conference held at BJP headquarters here this afternoon.
Blaming administration, Tagak said that everything is happening just in front of administration and EC, who were fully aware about it, however, no action was taken against the wrong doers.
People’s constitutional right was snatched and they are very unhappy over the dirty politics and its result must be shown in the Western Parliamentary election and we hopes that people’s mandate will go in favour of BJP, he asserted.
Replying to a question, the state unit president informed that state BJP is going to submit a memorandum to the EC tomorrow, alleging all corrupt practices happening in the state.
Commenting on simultaneous elections following sudden dissolving of the state Cabinet, Tagak said, ‘we were not fully against the holding of Parliamentary election along with State Legislative Polls.
“However, we had submitted memorandum to the EC and state Governor urging for conducting Assembly elections in its scheduled time in October,” he added. (UNI)
