Khliehriat MLA stresses on importance of computer literacy

KHLIEHRIAT, July 30: Khliehriat MLA Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday highlighted the importance of computer literacy during a computer distribution programme held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in East Jaintia Hills district.
As part of the initiative, selected schools in the district received desktop computers under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Scheme, aimed at strengthening Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in the education sector.
The programme was attended by Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla, Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi, SDO (Civil) Manish Kumar, along with teachers and students.
During the programme, the Khliehriat MLA reiterated the DMF’s commitment to supporting key sectors such as education, roads and sports.
He stressed the growing need for computer literacy among students and expressed hope that the newly distributed computers would help enhance digital learning in schools.
On the other hand, Sutnga-Saipung MLA encouraged schools to make full use of the resources provided.
Other officials in attendance underscored the importance of integrating digital tools into school curricula to improve students’ learning outcomes and job preparedness.
Earlier in the programme, the DC stated that the administration aims to equip students with basic computer skills essential for their future career prospects.
