SHILLONG, Aug 8: The state government’s decision to discontinue optional subjects in the Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) examinations is to ensure a level playing field for everyone, Chief Secretary Donald P. Wahlang said on Friday.
He said that the introduction of a subject on Meghalaya will ensure equality among all candidates since some candidates appearing in simple subject score more marks than those who opt for difficult subjects.
Previously, candidates could choose from 23 optional subjects, but this led to an uneven playing field and administrative challenges.
This change is aimed at fairness, promoting operational efficiency, relevance, and aligning with emerging national standards for MCS officers, he said.
