Ri-Bhoi hosts Taekwondo selection trial for Nat’l Games

Shillong, Aug 10: The Taekwondo Association of Ri-Bhoi District, in partnership with the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association (MTA), has concluded a 10-day open coaching camp and selection trial aimed at grooming local talent for the National Games 2027.
The programme, held at the I.C.A.R Indoor Stadium in Ri-Bhoi, provided a platform for young athletes from the district to showcase their skills and receive specialised training.
The initiative sought to identify promising players who could represent Ri-Bhoi at the upcoming State Selection trial for the Games.
The closing ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including MTA General Secretary Jadumani Singh, UEKHDTA Joint Secretary Deep Khatri, Raju Pahari, and National Referee Bikon Deka.
Under the guidance of seasoned coach Master Jeetu Bagdas, participants underwent rigorous training sessions focusing on technical, tactical, and physical aspects of the sport.
The camp concluded with a competitive selection trial, which shortlisted the district’s top performers.
Officials hailed the event as a significant step toward developing Taekwondo in Meghalaya, expressing hope that the selected athletes will make their mark at the state level and beyond.
