SHILLONG: The State Government has already deployed security forces all over the state for smooth conduct of April 9 Lok Sabha polls.
A state Home department official on Saturday said that 40 companies of the Central para-military forces have been deployed in many parts of the State in view of the elections.
Majority of the 40 companies of para-military forces are for insurgency-ravaged Garo Hills, the official said.
“We expect a peaceful election though there are many militant groups in Garo Hills”, the official added.
Though the Government had sought 74 companies of para-military forces from the Centre, only 40 companies of central para-military forces were allotted for Meghalaya in view of the requirement of forces in other parts of the country,
Though Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills are considered peaceful, many areas in Garo Hills are vulnerable due to the law and order situation.
