New research, exploratory projects in pipeline

SHILLONG, Aug 12: The Meghalaya State Programming Board has announced new projects for 2025-26, aimed at promoting sustainable resource management and advancing geological research and exploration across the state.
Chaired by Secretary of the Mining and Geology department, BS Sohliya, the board’s 50th meeting in Shillong reviewed projects completed over the past year, highlighting major achievements and identifying areas for improvement. Discussions focused on the impact of these initiatives on Meghalaya’s geological and mineral resources.
Sohliya stressed the need for strong collaboration among stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation that supports both economic growth and environmental protection. He also emphasised the importance of regular inter-departmental meetings to share geological findings and boost mineral exploration, “thereby contributing to the overall GDP of the state.”
Key officials present included Director, DMR, MB Tongper; Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India, Dr SK Kulshreshtha; DGM (Geology), ONGC, Kuldeep Baruah Gupta; Scientist D, Central Ground Water Board, Dakshina Rabha; Deputy Controller of Mines, Indian Bureau of Mines, Ibrahim Sharif; and Regional Director, AMD, Bhaskar Basu, along with other officers.
