JOWAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the United Democratic Party (UDP) have slammed the Congress for the implementation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in their separate election campaigns held on Saturday at different places in East and West Jaintia Hills District.

BJP Candidate, Shibun Lyngdoh held a series of election campaigns at Tuberkmai shnong, Shangpung, Raliang and Mowkaiaw. The meeting at Tuberkmai shnong was attended by party leaders including, BJP vice Presdent, Dr. Imdad Hussein, former BJP State President, HS Syiemlieh, former MDC, David Kharsati besides the candidate and others.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Hussein said, “BJP is to form the new Government in Delhi under the leadership of Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, there is no doubt about it”. Dr. Hussein slammed the UPA government for poor development activities in the North-East and inflation of essential commodities.

“The UPA Government has frequently hiked the Petrol and Diesel price. The hike in fuel has increased the transportation cost thereby increasing the cost of all essential commodities”, he added.

District BJP vice President, Michael Phawa slammed the Congress Candidate, Vincent H Pala for doing nothing on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). “The FDI has major effect on coal traders in the State particularly East Jaintia Hills District”, Phawa said, adding that India purchased coal from China, USA, Australia and Indonesia and there is no more demand of coal from Meghalaya.

The BJP Candidate, Shibun Lyngdoh informed the gathering that he joined BJP for a stable government in the centre. “I am sure BJP will come to power and if the people elect me, I will bring more developments to the State”, Lyngdoh said. “BJP is a party which concentrates in only one mission- development for all irrespective of cast, creed and religion.

The meeting was chaired by Tuberkmai Rangbah Shnong, Embi Sana. Former MDC, David Kharsati also spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, UDP General Secretary and Jowai South MDC also slammed the Congress on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Campaigning for UDP Candidate, Paul Lyngdoh, Moonlight Pariat informed that he was against FDI since the beginning. According to Pariat, FDI has badly affected coal business in Jaintia Hills. “The sitting MP and Congress Candidate, Vincent Pala has done nothing in this regard for the interest of the people of the state”, Pariat said.

‘I am not a dummy Candidate’: Paul

Speaking at a meeting at Ladthadlaboh here on Saturday, Paul informed that he is not a dummy candidate of Vincent Pala. “No I am not a dummy candidate of Pala. Relationship is not in Politics”, Paul said.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh also informed that if people elect him, he will raise all social and developmental issues of the North East together with other MPs from North East under the banner of the North East Regional Party Forum.
