SHILLONG, Aug 14: After the hawkers’ relocation, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday inaugurated ‘Lynti Sur Bathiang’ at Khyndai Lad — a move that aims to revitalise the area. He also took a short walk on the bedecked pathway accompanied by his Cabinet colleague and Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh besides others.
The chief minister stated that the government plans to beautify Khyndai Lad and other areas, providing opportunities for youth to showcase their talents through initiatives like the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) platform.
The programme saw some power-packed performances by artistes and bands including Da-La-Riti, Advaya, Six Frets, and Ashmit Paul and friends. Their songs drew a large number of crowds with most of them staying for the entire show despite the unrelenting rain. This was the initiative of the rebranded CM-MGMP, the state’s flagship programme promoting singers, musicians and artistes in general.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister urged the public to collaborate with the government for the betterment and development of the state. He also announced plans to further develop Khyndai Lad by planting trees, which would enhance the area’s aesthetic and serve the community’s needs after the Assembly relocation.
Others who were present include East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah, and Commissioner and Secretary of Urban Affairs department, Vijay Kumar D, besides other officials.
