College union leader stripped of powers

RA: The current general secretary of the Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU), Balkarin Ch Marak has been stripped of his powers and functions with effect from March 29. This was informed by the Principal of the college.

In a statement issued here recently the College Head informed that Balkarin, who was arrested by police from Damalgre last week had violated the instructions given by the College authority and the election commission of the TGCSU.

“As per section 6 of the instruction given to the interim body of the TGCSU he is liable to disciplinary action by the college authority. And as he is presently under judicial custody the college authority is unable to take disciplinary action on him and until the action is taken his powers and functions shall remain suspended,” the Principal said in the statement.

The Principal further informed that the other members of the TGCSU had nothing to do in the case as Balkarin was arrested for his own personal actions.

Meanwhile, it was also informed that another member of the TGCSU, Silning D Sangma holding the post of Socio and Cultural Secretary resigned from the union citing personal reasons.
