SHILLONG: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to support the Congress candidates in both the Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya. NCP is a coalition partner of the MUA II government in Meghalaya under the leadership of Congress leader Dr Mukul Sangma.

Addressing a Press conference here on Monday, NCP Khasi hills President Wallambok Lyngdoh said that NCP national president Sharad Pawar had decided not to field any candidate in the Lok sabha elections from Meghalaya and support both the Congress candidates, sitting MP from Shillong seat Vincent H Pala and young Daryl William Ch Momin from Tura seat.

According to Lyngdoh, the official communiqué from the NCP high command to support Congress in Meghalaya has been signed by NCP secretary SR Kohli and the party high command has directed the state president to extend full support to Congress candidates.

The NCP is also hopeful that NCP and Congress would jointly form UPA III at the Centre since the two are like minded parties with common interest of bringing a change.

The State congress vice-president Oris Lyngdoh welcomed NCP’s support to its candidates and expressed its gratefulness to Pawar for helping the party.
