SHILLONG, Aug 22: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Friday urged officials to suggest measures that ensure people face no difficulties while implementing central government schemes.
The Union MoS, who chaired a high-level review meeting in Shillong, assessed the progress of various central schemes in Meghalaya. The meeting was attended by senior state government officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Shakeel Ahammed.
Briefing the media, Ahammed said the Union MoS made several observations regarding the implementation of schemes and took note of challenges such as delays in fund release, geographical hurdles and the difficulty of accessing remote areas, which often hinder smooth execution of the central projects.
He clarified that the meeting primarily focused on developmental and welfare-related issues, while border security and infiltration concerns were not on the agenda.
It may be mentioned that this marked Kumar’s first official review visit to Meghalaya since assuming charge as Union MoS for Home Affairs earlier this year. Although reluctant to engage with local media, Kumar took to X later and said, “Reviewed the implementation of Central Government schemes in Meghalaya at Shillong today. The progress has been excellent, reflecting the Centre’s priority for the North-East. Urged officials to suggest measures that ensure people in hilly areas face no difficulties. Interactions with senior state officials were productive and encouraging.”
