TURA: Several NGOs of Tikrikilla including the FKJGP, AYWO, Tikrikilla Saha Welfare Society, Tikrikilla Hajong Students’ Union, Mothers’ Union, AIGU, FAF, Meghalaya Koch Students’ Union and the TBBYWA have submitted a joint representation to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner urging strong action against the accused in the recent rape of a nine-year-old minor.

A general public meeting was organized on the premises of Tikrikilla Government Upper Primary School recently by the NGOs where they condemned the rape incident and at the same time urged the concerned authority to serve capital punishment on the accused by trial in a Fast Track Court.

The NGOs also demanded financial assistance to the mother of the victim and appealed for the family members of the culprit to be shifted from Tikrikilla to some other place for their safety and security in case of any untoward incidents taking place for which it stated that the NGOs of Tikrikilla would not be responsible.

The NGOs also resolved to take out a silent procession in Tikrikilla as a mark of condemnation against the crime and sympathy and solidarity to the family of the victim, permission for which was also sought from the concerned Deputy Commissioner.
