SHILLONG, Aug 22: The Meghalaya government has prescribed a revised syllabus and pattern for the Meghalaya Civil Services Examinations.
The competitive examination will now consist of two stages: the Preliminary Examination (objective type) for selection of candidates for the Main Examination, and the Main Examination (written and interview).
The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an interview test. The written examination shall comprise seven papers of conventional essay type out of which one paper shall be qualifying in nature.
The marks obtained by candidates in the Main Examination (written portion as well as interview) shall determine their final ranking.
The Preliminary Examination will consist of two compulsory papers, Paper-I and Paper-II, each of 200 marks, both objective type. Both papers shall be of the objective type (multiple choice questions). Paper II, which is English, shall be of qualifying nature with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
The candidate will be interviewed by the Commission who will have before them a record of his career. They will be asked questions on matters of general interest.
The technique of the interview is not that of a strict cross-examination but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation which is intended to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate, the government said.
