General meeting

The Shillong Socio-Assamese Students Association (SSASA) held its Annual General Meeting at Asom Kristi Kendra, Dhankheti, on Monday, welcoming a new executive committee dedicated to steering the association’s activities over the coming year. The newly appointed members are Kaushik Das (president), Parthib Neogi and Meghali Mishra (vice presidents), Hemanga Dutta (general secretary), Sarmistha Kattyan, Ananya Baruah and Vaishali Baruah (assistant general secretaries), Ankrita Das (treasurer) among others.

Police station

In a bid to improve public convenience and better administration, the state government has created a new police station at Nongshillong in the Eastern West Khasi Hills to be known as the Nongshillong Police Station. The newly created PS is bounded by Nongstoin PS in the north, Mairang PS in the East, Mawkyrwat PS in the South and Nongstoin PS in the West. On creation of the Nongshillong Police Station, the areas coming under its jurisdiction will cease to be under Mairang PS, informed Commissioner and Secretary, Home (Police) department.

Purple Fair

The Purple Fair, an inclusive awareness event aimed at promoting the rights, empowerment and visibility of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), will be held at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, on Wednesday. The fair is expected to serve as a vibrant platform to showcase the talents, capabilities and contributions of PwDs while also engaging the wider community in conversations around accessibility, inclusion and equal opportunity. It will be organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) (CRCSRE-Shillong), Meghalaya, under the administrative control of SVNIRTAR-Cuttack, Odisha, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with the office of Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Meghalaya.

Appointment

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Meghalaya State Unit has appointed Dapkupar Nongrum as its secretary with effect from August 25 in the presence of party’s national coordinator, and Mahila president of NCP state unit.
