SHILLONG: An attempt of the surrendered ANLCA militant Charles D Shira (25) to meet the Home Minister Roshan Warjri to lodge complaints against the alleged torture he faced in police custody turned futile for the second day on Wednesday.
Shira along with his lawyer tried to meet the Minister on Tuesday and Wednesday, but in vain as she was busy, according to them.
Shira also wanted to apprise the Minister about the alleged double standard being followed by the Government as far as the surrender policy is concerned.
The lawyer and the surrendered cadre will make a third attempt to meet the Minister again on Thursday and if the attempt fails, they have decided to approach the High Court for legal redress. Instead of fully rehabilitating the surrendered cadre, he was taken to Nongstoin where he faced torture by the police. Later he was lodged in Shillong jail.
“The police in Nongstion tied a black cloth around my mouth and they forced me to stay in the lock up. Periodically, they thrashed my feet”, Shira said.
It was on March 4 that Shira surrendered before East Khasi Hills police and on March 7, he was taken to Nongstoin police station. After he was lodged in Shillong jail, he was released from jail on bail end of March.
