SHILLONG: The National Green Tribunal will hold a hearing in Shillong on Friday on the matter of threat to life arising out of coal mining in South Garo Hills District.

NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar and expert member Ranjan Chatterjee will hear the matter.

In the last sitting, the NGT had raised doubts on the reports and other records submitted by the Meghalaya Government about a 2012 mining accident in thedistrict when 15 persons were allegedly trapped in a coal mine, saying that the documents “do not seem to be that old”.

The Tribunal had on October 7 last directed the State Government to submit complete records of the incident, including those relating to the probe into the accident and number of workers who worked in the mine, among others.
