JOWAI, Aug 30: The Deputy Secretary of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has denied giving permission to any village or association, other than the Jaintia Fishing and Environment Protection Association, to manage the Syntu Ksiar Fish Sanctuary.
The clarification came after reports surfaced that one of the villages in Jowai town had claimed control over the sanctuary and issued warnings against fishing or misconduct in the area.
During a meeting on Saturday, the JHADC’s deputy secretary expressed surprise over the claims, reiterating that no such authorisation had been granted and confirming that only the association holds the mandate to oversee the sanctuary.
