TIANJIN, Aug 31: Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized the importance of Russia and China in addressing discriminatory sanctions that hinder the socioeconomic development of BRICS member countries.
Putin arrived in Shanghai to attend the Shanghai Cooperation (SCO) summit and stated that Russia and China are focusing on mobilizing resources for critical infrastructure projects and strengthening BRICS’ ability to address global challenges.
The SCO, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has welcomed Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates as new members.
Putin also expressed support for reforming the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, stating that a new financial system must be built on principles of “openness and true equity” to provide equal and non-discriminatory access to its tools for all countries.
Putin hoped that the SCO Tianjin Summit would inject new momentum into the organization and strengthen its capacity to respond to contemporary challenges and threats, contributing to a fairer, multipolar world order. (PTI)
