According to preliminary reports, three villages under Betasing Block in South West Garo Hills, namely Dorambokgre, Jewilgre and Bolgangre suffered extensive damage to homes with roofs either blown away or damaged from hailstorm.
The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Betasing, Albert G Momin, informed The Shillong Times that close to 90 percent of homes in the three villages suffered extensive damage from the hail.
“We have gone in for a spot inquiry and physical assessment is underway to provide relief to the affected villagers,” said Momin.
Similar reports of damage to homes and plantations have begun to come in from the  Dalu, Gambegre and Tura region.
Meanwhile, Shillongites also had a pleasant surprise when hailstones started dropping in the city and many roads of the city were full with white marbles much to the delight of the people.
However, it did result in the slowing down of traffic across the city.
