Shillong, Sep 4: The second Inter School Table Tennis Championship 2025, organised by Lban Sports Club, entered an exciting phase on Thursday with All Saints Diocesan Higher Secondary School and BK Bajoria Higher Secondary School storming into the boys’ Under-17 team final after commanding semifinal victories.
All Saints Diocesan produced a flawless display to blank Risa Higher Secondary School 3-0 in the first semifinal, with the duo of Ansh Ray and Debobrata Paul leading the charge in both singles and doubles. BK Bajoria proved equally ruthless in the second semifinal, sweeping aside St Edmund’s School 3-0.
Dhruv Dey and Sagnik Choudhury combined with authority, dominating their singles matches before securing the doubles tie with ease.The group stages earlier in the day featured several spirited contests, with schools such as St Anthony’s, Pine Mount, KV Upper Shillong, and Army Public School putting up commendable performances. In the girls’ U-17 category, Pine Mount School emerged as one of the strongest contenders, with Shriya Thapa and Saachi Mizar registering convincing wins across formats. Risa Higher Secondary School also impressed in the early rounds before being knocked out by stronger opposition.
The U-12 boys’ division highlighted Shillong’s emerging talent, with KV Upper Shillong registering comprehensive victories in their league matches, while Army Public School also enjoyed a successful run.
Players like Niyon K Das, Wangden Lama, and Shivansh caught the eye with their quick reflexes and tactical play, underlining the bright future of table tennis in the region.Friday promises to be a blockbuster day as the championship continues with a packed schedule. Proceedings will open at 9 AM with the U-12 Boys’ team clash between BDW International School and St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, followed by the U-17 Boys’ third-place playoff between St Edmund’s and Risa.
The marquee U-17 Boys’ final between All Saints Diocesan and BK Bajoria will then headline the morning session, with both teams entering the contest unbeaten.
The singles categories will also begin in earnest, with first-round matches in the U-17 Boys’ Singles, U-12 Boys’ and Girls’ Singles, and U-17 Girls’ Singles lined up through the morning. Semi-finals in the U-12 Girls’ Singles are slated just before lunch, while quarterfinals in the U-17 Boys’ Singles and U-12 Boys’ Singles will be played later in the day.
The evening session will see the finals of the U-12 Boys’ and Girls’ Singles along with the title deciders in the U-17 Boys’ and Girls’ Singles, bringing the tournament to a thrilling close.
