NONGPOH, Sep 6: As part of efforts to strengthen its base in Ri-Bhoi district ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections, leaders of the National People’s Party (NPP), led by president of the National People’s Women Front (NPWF) Grace Mary Kharpuri, visited Nongpoh on Saturday to formally induct the new office-bearers of the NPWF Ri-Bhoi district.
The induction programme, held at the Dorbar Hall in Nongpoh Proper, Sajer, was attended by Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit, NPP Ri-Bhoi district president Clement Mawlong, Ri-Bhoi secretary in-charge Samlin Malngiang, NPP Nongpoh block working president Rayonald Kharkamni, and several other party leaders.
During the programme, Kharpuri formally installed the newly elected office-bearers of the NPWF Ri-Bhoi, with Wanmontimai Marbaniang as president, Aitidora Wahlang as working president, Santi Jyrwa and Mardilet Kharnaior as vice presidents, Rosila Makri as general secretary, Veronica Santi Warjri as spokesperson and Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong as adviser, along with other members.
During the programme, party leaders spoke about the importance of strengthening the organisation at both district and block levels, despite being in power in the state.
They argued that dedicated leadership and grassroots commitment will be crucial in the run-up to the 2028 Assembly election to ensure the party retains its mandate.
