Shillong, Sep 8: Mawlai had a dominant day against Malki in a 5-1 win in the Shillong Premier League 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here on Monday.
Loving Suting (18’, 30’), Robert Khongriah (27’), Fairming Suting (31’) and Kevin Rymbai (48’) scored for Mawlai, while Damutlang Wahlang (45’+4) produced the lone goal for Malki.
The victory takes Mawlai back up to second place with 9 points from four games. Malki remain in eighth on 3 points from four outings.
There were five goals scored in the first half as Mawlai sought to take full control in the early part of the game.
A cross from Kevin led to the first goal, with Loving squeezing the ball past a defender from just six yards out.
Malki goalkeeper Franklin Surong denied Brolington Warlarpih a goal in the 26th minute with the custodian making a solid save from a direct free-kick.
However, three goals then came in the space of a few minutes with Robert scoring from the left flank before Kevin set up Loving for his second goal with another perfect cross.
Just a minute later came Mawlai’s fourth, with a long ball finding Fairming, who guided the ball into the box, swerved past a defender and aimed his left-footer past Franklin.
Mawlai could not keep a clean sheet, however, with Malki’s Damutlang timing a run past the defenders well. He took on goalie Banshanskhem Kharsyntiew solo and won the fight, putting the ball into the net on the run.
The second half started with Mawlai once again pressing the accelerator, with Kevin, from assisting two goals, now getting on the scoresheet himself with a scintillating left-footer from a tight angle.
Even still, Malki had a chance to pull another back when Mawlai’s Wallambok Dkhar fouled a player in the box in the 64th minute. However, Niklestone Ryntathiang went for too much power over placement and blasted his spot kick into the stands, which summed up his team’s evening very well.
On Tuesday, Mylliem will face defending champions Shillong Lajong at 4:30pm in what will be the last match of Round 4.
