SHILLONG, Sep 10: The Adventurous Hynniewtrep Offroaders (AHOR) is all set to host the 7th edition of the AHOR 4×4 Offroad Challenge from October 23 to 25 at Mawlyndep, Ri-Bhoi district.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, AHOR general secretary Ferdinand Jahrin said the annual event has grown into a major platform for the off-roading community in the Northeast and beyond. “This event is a significant one for the off-roading community in the Northeast and attracts participants from across the country to test their skills on challenging natural terrain,” Jahrin said.
He added that this year’s edition holds special significance as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the club.
“We have been conducting the 4×4 Offroad Challenge for the past six years. This is the seventh year, and we invite all off-roaders to come and join us. Let us make this event a grand one,” he remarked.
The AHOR general secretary thanked the state government, particularly the Tourism department and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, for their support. “This year, our club has also been included in the state’s calendar of autumn festivals, which is a big encouragement for us,” he noted.
It may be mentioned that competitors from Meghalaya, Assam, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and other parts of the country have confirmed participation in the event.
“We are expecting competitors from across India. Some participants from Kerala and other Northeastern states have already confirmed their entry,” Jahrin said.
Highlighting the uniqueness of the competition, he explained that the challenge tests drivers on extreme terrain.
“This is a sport where competitors have to drive through tracks that are not regular roads—through water, mud, slush and jungle. Only 4×4 vehicles can take part; ordinary vehicles cannot drive in such tracks,” Jahrin stated.
The competition will feature three categories, with entry fees set at Rs 15,000 for the Pro-Modified category, Rs 10,000 for the Modified category, and Rs 8,000 for the Stock category. Winners will receive trophies along with attractive cash prizes.
“The total cash prize this year is quite substantial, and we look forward to thrilling performances from the competitors,” Jahrin said, while urging the public to turn up in large numbers to witness the spectacle.
