JOWAI, Sep 10: The Court of District and Sessions Judge, Jowai, has convicted one Dros Pakem under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
According to a statement, the case originated from an FIR lodged on July 24, 2011, by one Hainibait Pakem, brother of the deceased, before the Officer-in-Charge of Jowai Police Station.
He reported that around 10 pm on July 23, 2011, Dros Pakem struck his brother, Dao Pakem, on the head with a wooden stool at Mooralong locality.
Dao Pakem sustained a severe injury and succumbed to it the following day while being taken to Jowai Civil Hospital.
The case was registered in Jowai Police Station and was investigated and charged by SI E. Pohchen.
Upon conclusion of the trial, District and Sessions Judge NA Khan found Dros Pakem guilty under Section 304 Part II IPC and sentenced him to two years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 5,000.
