Dubai, Sep 12: Bangladesh skipper Litton Das etched his name in the record books on Friday, becoming the country’s all-time leading six-hitter in T20 internationals during his side’s Asia Cup opener against Hong Kong.
Litton began the match tied with former captain Mahmudullah Riyad, both sitting on 77 sixes. Mahmudullah, who retired from international cricket last year, had taken 130 innings to reach the mark. Litton, however, needed just 109 innings—21 fewer—to claim the record outright.
The landmark moment came in style. With Bangladesh cruising towards their modest target and just 20 runs short of victory, Litton, on 42, decided it was time to clear the ropes. He produced a powerful slog sweep off Yasim Murtaza that sailed over mid-wicket and into the stands. That shot not only brought the crowd to its feet but also elevated Litton above all others in Bangladesh’s T20I six-hitting charts, his tally moving to 78.
The achievement carried extra significance given Litton’s own words on the eve of the match.
The opener had stressed that success would depend on “smart cricket” rather than reckless hitting, and he lived up to that philosophy—picking his moment wisely before striking his first maximum of the game once Bangladesh had the chase firmly under control. The record is the latest in a series of milestones for Litton.
