New Delhi, Sep 16: Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has strongly denied making any remarks about India’s alleged handshake snub following their Asia Cup clash against Pakistan.
The legendary cricketer clarified that the quotes doing the rounds on social media were completely fabricated.
A statement had gone viral claiming Ponting criticised India’s players for not shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts after the match, with the alleged comments suggesting India would be remembered as “the big loser.”
The remarks, attributed to a television appearance, quickly drew backlash online, with many fans expressing anger at the former Australia skipper.
Ponting, however, issued a clarification on X, stressing he had made no comments whatsoever about the Asia Cup or the incident in question. “I am aware of certain comments being attributed to me on social media. Please know that I categorically did not make those statements and indeed have made no public comment about the Asia Cup at all,” he wrote.
By distancing himself from the controversy, Ponting put to rest speculation around his supposed criticism of Team India. The former captain emphasised that he has not been involved in any broadcast or media discussions concerning the tournament. Ponting’s clarification not only dismisses the false claims but also highlights the growing concern over the spread of misinformation in sports, where fabricated quotes can quickly spark unnecessary controversy and mislead fans worldwide.
