SHILLONG, Sep 16: As part of the ongoing Yatri Sewa Diwas celebrations on September 17, which is aimed at enhancing passenger experience and promoting community engagement, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has planned a series of passenger-centric and cultural activities throughout the day at Umroi Airport.
Passengers arriving at Umroi Airport will be welcomed with flowers and traditional hospitality. The terminal will also come alive with a vibrant folk dance (Ka Shad Synrai) performed by a local group to celebrate unity, joy and cultural identity, while showcasing the rich heritage of Meghalaya.
To mark the occasion, the airport will also see the inauguration of several new passenger-friendly facilities. These include a Kids Zone to provide a safe and engaging space for children, a library for travellers to enjoy books and reading material while waiting for their flights, AVSAR—a dedicated outlet for local artisans and craftsmen to showcase and sell their products inside the terminal, and a Workstation Zone for passengers who wish to continue their professional work while travelling.
In addition to these inaugurations, the airport will host several interactive and welfare-oriented initiatives. Passengers, especially children, will be encouraged to take part in quiz and painting competitions inside the terminal.
Further, a free health check-up counter will be set up for travellers, taxi drivers and others, while a blood donation camp will be organised in collaboration with local health authorities.
