Convocation

William Carey University, Meghalaya, held its 5th convocation on Tuesday, during which degrees were conferred on PhD, postgraduate and undergraduate students, along with the presentation of awards of appreciation. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Soma Bhowmick congratulated the graduates and paid tribute to former chief minister DD Lapang, while highlighting his contributions to the state and his close association with the university. The programme was also attended by State Education Commission chairperson Prof. SM Sungoh, who, in his address, congratulated the successful candidates and encouraged them to strive for excellence in their respective fields.

Prohibition

The Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C): Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, has prohibited the movement of heavy vehicles on the Shillong-Dawki road after a landslide occurred at Dawki in West Jaintia Hills district. According to a statement here, the restriction applies to all goods-laden trucks and passenger buses travelling from Lad-Umsyiem up to the affected stretch at Dawki. The order will remain in force until restoration work is completed. Meanwhile, the SDO has appealed to transporters and commuters to take note of the restriction and extend their cooperation in ensuring safety and smooth execution of restoration efforts.
