SHILLONG, Sep 19: St. Edmund’s College, in collaboration with Meghalayan Age Limited, organised “Verse & Verse: Poetry Meets Music Competition” at its campus on Friday. The event served as a vibrant prelude to the upcoming Shillong Literary Festival 2025, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their creativity through poetry and music.
The programme was graced by Editor of The Shillong Times, Patricia Mukhim, as the chief guest and cultural activist Brian Wallang as guest of honour.
Two inter-college competitions were held—Poetry and Songwriting—with enthusiastic participation from 11 colleges across Shillong. The poetry segment featured three categories: Haiku, Acrostic, and Prompted Muse. In the Haiku category, the first prize went to Yashoshini Bhaduri of St. Edmund’s College, followed by Suhana Nongrum of Lady Keane College and Sasanlang Wahlang of Synod College. In the Acrostic category, Wan Da Grace Kharbani of St. Anthony’s College secured the top position, while Meda Ai Bakor Giri of St. Edmund’s College and Anzer Ullah of Lady Keane College took second and third place respectively. The Prompted Muse category was won by Adriel Neziah Syiemlich of St. Edmund’s College, with Noella R.K. Warjri of St. Mary’s College and Fedrick Kharbudon of St. Anthony’s College finishing second and third.
In the songwriting competition, St. Anthony’s College impressed with their band comprising Ribanshanbok L. Mawlong, Khlurjingshai Lyngkhoi, and Haphibankyrkhu Langstieh, who were awarded Best Performer. Dashainam Nonglang, also from St. Anthony’s College, was adjudged Best Lyricist, while Zuriel L. Basaiawmoit and Ruskin Stone Shadap of St. Edmund’s College bagged the Best Overall award.
