Conference highlights transformative power of Bible

SHILLONG, Sep 20: Eminent theologians, scripture scholars and students from across the region conglomerated for a two-day Biennial Conference-cum-Seminar of the Northeast India Society for Biblical Studies (NEISBS), which was held in collaboration with Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC), Shillong, from September 16-18.
Centred on the theme ‘The Bible as Transformative Power’, the conference featured thought-provoking presentations and vibrant discussions on the role of Scripture in shaping values, culture, worship, education and social responsibility.
“The first day included papers on the Bible as a source of perennial values (His Grace Thomas Menamparampil DD), as a force for cultural transformation (Dr. Rosy Zoramthangi), in ecclesial worship (Rev. Dr. Aloysius Hemrom), as the Word made flesh (Dr. Joseph Palakeel MST) and its role in education (Rev. Dr. Robinson Teron),” a statement here said.
The second day began with the Eucharist and featured sessions on the Bible and political responsibility (Dr. Fellystone B. Marak), challenges in biblical interpretation (Rev. Bro. Abraham M. Antony SDB), and the Bible’s role in fostering ecumenism (Dr. W. Renchamo Kikon).
The seminar concluded with a summing-up by Rev. Dr. George Maliekal SDB, followed by the general body meeting and election of office bearers.
It may be mentioned that participants representing various theological colleges and Christian denominations arrived on September 16, with the main sessions held on September 17 and 18.
