SHILLONG, Sep 20: Specialised health camps were on Saturday organised across Meghalaya under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar (SNSP) Abhiyaan campaign, with a strong focus on women’s and maternal health.
In East Khasi Hills, a camp was held at the local market in Diengpasoh in collaboration with Diengpasoh PHC and a team of specialists from NEIGRIHMS. The programme drew enthusiastic participation from beneficiaries and offered free medical check-ups, MHIS and PMJAY registration facilities, alongside awareness sessions on women’s health.
The team of specialists included Dr. Aldrich Lyngdoh, Medical and Health Officer In-charge of Diengpasoh PHC; and from NEIGRIHMS, Dr. Thoudam Reena Devi and Dr. Evakerlang S. Lynshing (Community Medicine), Dr. Charity Lamin (Paediatrics), Dr. Jaya (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), Dr. Pynnarbhah Suting (Medicine), Dr. Oinam Somapika Devi (Ophthalmology) and Ophelia Mary Kharmujai (Public Health Nursing).
“This programme is to mobilise the village and highlight the SNSP campaign. It is because of this programme we are able to conduct the camp in collaboration with NEIGRIHMS. We have also reached out to community leaders and the village headman to ensure maximum outreach and participation,” said Dr. Aldrich Lyngdoh.
“The main aim of SNSP is to encourage women to undergo regular health check-ups. Today, we have pregnant women and young patients with menstrual health concerns receiving treatment,” added Dr. Evakerlang S. Lynshing, a community medicine specialist from NEIGRIHMS.
Village representative Raymond Mawthoh expressed his gratitude. “This health camp is a blessing, not only for patients but for the community. Such camps remind people to care for their mental health too. When the mind is strong, it is easier to focus on physical well-being. We thank the doctors from PHC Diengpasoh and NEIGRIHMS and the media for spreading awareness,” he said.
Similar SNSP Abhiyaan camps were also conducted in North Garo Hills and West Garo Hills, which witnessed active participation from local communities.
