BAGHMARA, Sep 25: Protests by various CSOs of the South Garo Hills region for over a month has pressured the state government to relent, transferring the District Transport Officer (DTO) TA Sangma, from the district with immediate effect.
Groups led by the GSU, FKJGP, ADE, NGCO, AYWO among others have been picketing the office of the DTO in Baghmara seeking his ouster over negligence of duty, rude behaviour among others and had even submitted another memo to the Deputy Commissioner of SGH threatening more stringent measures to ensure the DTO’s ouster.
On Thursday afternoon, an order from the secretary to the Government of Meghalaya stated that the official was temporarily relieved of his duties as DTO and attached to the office of the Commissioner of Transport.
His duties will be taken over by enforcement inspector, Tridip N Sangma, with effect from the date of joining, the order stated.
