Meghalaya organic farm products showcased at Delhi mega event
NEW DELHI, Sept 26: Meghalaya’s organic products, from pineapple to Lakadong turmeric, were showcased at the Meghalaya Pavilion and Meghalaya Collectives Organic at the World Food India (WFI) 2025, Bharat Mandapam on Friday. The pavilion was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, during the WFI, which started on Thursday. The launch marks an important milestone in showcasing Meghalaya’s organic produce and strengthening opportunities for farmers and agri-food enterprises in both national and international markets. Organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, this mega global food event witnessed the participation from 21 countries, 21 Indian states/UTs, 10 central ministries, and five allied government organisations, making it the largest congregation of stakeholders in India’s food processing sector. The four-day event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and addressed by several Union ministers. Addressing farmers and entrepreneurs, Sangma said that Meghalaya has huge potential for organic products. He encouraged the participants to take an active interest in this upcoming sector. Paswan stated that the event is not merely a trade show, but a transformative platform to position India as a global hub for food innovation, investment, and sustainability. There will be 45 knowledge sessions during the event, including thematic discussions, state and country-specific conferences, and CXO round-tables with 100+ global agri-food leaders. There will be a 3rd Global Food Regulators Summit (FSSAI) to foster harmonisation of global food safety standards with a Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet (APEDA) featuring more than 1,000 buyers. Renovated park inaugurated in Shillong Cantonment area
SHILLONG, Sept 26: Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, GOC 101 Area, inaugurated the renovated Shillong Cantonment Board Vidya Bajoria Park on Thursday, dedicating it to the residents of Shillong. The project, a joint initiative of the Shillong Cantonment Board, the Indian Army and NEEPCO under its CSR programme, aims to promote health, fitness and community engagement. Located in the heart of the city, the park now features walking pathways, an open gym, children’s play areas and green spaces for yoga and meditation. The renovation was designed to cater to all age groups while promoting environmental sustainability and serving as a hub for social interaction. The renovated park is expected to serve as a space for recreation, fitness and community bonding for Shillong residents. Lt General Malik lauded the Cantonment Board for executing his vision of creating a vibrant urban space, urging more such projects in collaboration with the state government and CSR partners. He also expressed gratitude to Major General RK Jha for initiating the partnership between the Board, NEEPCO, and the Army. Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai, who attended the event, praised the renovation efforts and pledged continued support in mobilising funds for the Cantonment area. He called on the locals to maintain peace and harmony and to make full use of the park’s facilities. Meanwhile, Shillong Cantonment Board CEO Ayush Maurya thanked the NEEPCO for its contribution and iterated the Board’s commitment to improving urban amenities. “This park is a testament to our resolve to enhance the quality of life and set a benchmark for urban development in the region,” he said. NEEPCO Director (Personnel) Major General (Retd) RK Jha complimented the Army and the Cantonment Board for the park’s theme and reiterated the company’s commitment to impactful CSR projects. He pledged further collaborations in areas such as education, health and security.
Social gathering in city on Oct 11
SHILLONG, Sep 26: As part of its 125th anniversary celebrations, the Junior Christian Endeavour Society Mawkhar will organise a social gathering on October 11 at Meadow Grand Hall, Jaiaw Lumbatemon, from 2 pm onwards.
