SHILLONG, Sep 28: In a moment of inspiration for the state’s youth aspiring to make their mark in science and research, Dr Sourav Das, DST-INSPIRE Faculty at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, has brought pride to Meghalaya by securing a place among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in Chemistry.
The recognition comes in the 2025 data-update of the “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators,” released on September 19, 2025, by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.
Das, son of Anukul Chandra Das of Upper Jail Road, Shillong, is no stranger to academic excellence. This is the second time he has been conferred with the distinction, having first entered the prestigious list in 2023. His work spans across biophysical chemistry, catalysis, and sensing, and has earned him recognition in global scientific circles for its impact and contributions to advancing research in these fields.
Tracing his academic journey, Das studied at Shillong Jail Road Boys’ Higher Secondary School before moving on to St. Edmund’s College.
He later pursued higher studies at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and NIT Meghalaya, before completing advanced research at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, one of the country’s premier scientific institutions.
His inclusion in the global list is based on a rigorous evaluation of standardised citation indicators, a metric widely regarded as one of the most reliable tools for measuring research impact. The Stanford University database, created in collaboration with Elsevier, identifies scientists whose research output and citation records place them among the most influential in their respective fields worldwide.
